NOTES: MAY 27, 2025

At the end of the day, we had collected a total of 37 registrations. We still hope to receive most registrations by June 16, but we're not calling it a strict cutoff date. We are just now placing an ad in the Dominion Post, so an extra week to register seems reasonable for classmates who first learn of our reunion via the ad. When we asked for RSVPs earlier this year, a little over 100 classmates and spouses planned to attend.

Friday night, July 11th, 6 to 10pm: Kegler's: We will make use of Kegler's Clubhouse and outside patio. Dress casually for summer! We are providing meatballs, pizza, wings, fries, celery with ranch and blue cheese, and cake and fruit to serve an estimated 80 people. Cash bar.

Bring your Saturday night auction items to Kegler's on Friday for collection by Laura (Leach) Rockis and Stephanie (Howes) Juristy. They will set up everything for Saturday's reception so you won't have to worry about it. If you cannot make it to Kegler's on Friday or you would rather hold onto your auction item(s), come early to the Alumni Center on Saturday. Setup for our reception will begin around 3:30 p.m.

Also, bring your Saturday night memorabilia items to Kegler's on Friday for collection by Anne McCloskey Stanton. She will set up the Memorabilia Table Saturday afternoon for everyone to view that evening. If you cannot make it to Kegler's on Friday or you would rather hold onto your personal memorabilia, come early to the Alumni Center on Saturday. Setup for our reception will begin around 3:30 p.m.

There will be a Class of '75 pickup rock band organized by Bruce Mahin, with Mark Hall, Greg Losh, and (fingers crossed) Jeff Gianola. If you are interested in jamming, we can put you in touch with Bruce. There's still time!

Teachers have been invited. They would probably appeciate one or two rounds on us Friday night. Thank you, Barb Solly, for mailing their invitations.

Saturday morning, July 12th @ 9am: WV Botanic Garden. Start your day with a liesurely visit with classmates at the Botanic Garden. Victoria Liberatore Cather and Jim and Cyd Romito will set up for mimosas, coffee, biscotti, scones, and gelatos followed by a garden walk. A nice, relaxing morning!

Saturday morning, July 12th @ 10am: Mon River Rail Trail. This walking and/or biking excursion is a great Saturday morning option, but we will leave it up to interested classmates to plan places to meet and enjoy refreshments along the trail.

Saturday morning, July 12th @ 11am: Gene's Place on Wilson Avenue. Enjoy brews and the traditional chili dog downstairs at Gene's new Speak Easy.

For planning purposes, we will request an interest count for the Botanic Garden and Gene's after most of our registrations come in. It may be difficult to attend all three options, so plan accordingly.

Saturday evening, July 12th, 5 to 9pm: WVU Erickson Alumni Center. Registration fee includes 2 drink coupons for beer, wine, or soft drinks, and a champagne toast. Casual dress again. Master of Ceremonies: Steve Baker!

We begin our Saturday reception with a cocktail hour and photos. Our buffet dinner starts at 6 o'clock. Contact Sherre Williams-Baker at 304-376-4879 for special dietary requirements. Volunteers for the weekend and our Saturday reception include:

  • Andy Ice Horton: DJ and playlist
  • Keith and Linda Reed: Photo banner and frame, 50th Reunion decorations
  • Laura Rockis and Stephanie Howes Juristy: Auction items coordination and setup
  • Anne McCloskey Stanton: Memorabilia items coordination and Memorabilia Table setup
  • Cindy Baker Oliver and Karen Vannoy Sickles ('77): Registration table (name tags, drink tickets, general info and directions)
  • Barb Solly: Class video (get your pictures to Barb pronto!)
  • Barb and Laura: 50/50 Raffle
  • Patti DeBone: Class quilt with "in memoriam" (will also be displayed Friday at Kegler's)
  • Victoria, Andy, and crew: Table center pieces courtesy of Bella Fiore Florist but handmade by classmates; also, early Saturday setup at Alumni Center

TBD - Sunday brunch, July 13th: Rising Sun Bakery/Tutto Gelato. There may be an option Sunday for a small group "goodbye" brunch. Cindy Neely Keith is gathering details and will coordinate with the owners if there is enough interest. More to follow.

MUSINGS
1. Our reception at the Alumni Center will include tables of auction items and tables of memorabilia (old student IDs and publications, newspaper clippings, etc.). Let us know what you plan to bring. Send us photos of your auction items; we will create a webpage to put them on display before our reunion weekend.

2. Our reception at the Alumni Center will also include a digital video of favorite photographs: MHS then and now, classmates and friends, sports events, local haunts in the 70s, etc. You can easily digitize and clean up old photos using apps like Google PhotoScan (for Apple or for Android smartphones), Microsoft Lens, Photomyne's Photo Scan App, Adobe Scan, FamilySearch Memories, and CamScanner. Let us know if you can't find an app; we will hunt down a link for you, and we will post links on one of our web pages.

3. We have invited a photographer to take photos early on at the Alumni Center. The photos should be available at the end of the evening.

4. We hope to invite MHS teachers and friends from our high school days to our social gathering at Kegler's on Friday evening. Send suggestions and help track them down.

50th Reunion Euro Suites Hotel special rate is now available for booking.

Other reunion weekend options to consider for smaller gatherings, but not official reunion events, might include:

-- Saturday morning coffee and mimosas at The West Virginia Botanic Garden at Tibbs Run Preserve.

-- Saturday get-togethers at various locations like Gene's Place (Gene's Beer Garden) on Wilson Avenue, Whitetail Crossing at 1562 Grafton Road, Dorsey's Knob Park, Coopers Rock State Forest, or anywhere along our Mon River Trails (Mon River, Deckers Creek, and Caperton Rail Trails). You might find yourself near a restaurant or watering hole. Or just bag lunch. Or arrange a food truck if there’s a big enough crowd. (We've been told that Whitetail Crossing might be able to provide one.)

-- Saturday afternoon relaxing at Ruby Amphitheater at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park. Who knows, they may even have a free event that's not listed yet.

-- Sunday "goodbye" brunches at local coffee shops and restaurants.

As we firm up our official plans and gather other weekend suggestions, we will send out more notices. Each monthly planning session should provide another update for everyone. The next monthly meeting is on March 21st at Short Story Brewing in Westover, their newest location.
